Draw Poker

This is the original game of poker from which all other variations of this card game have been derived. Before the game begins, all players ante up i.e. place a small bet in the pot. This is also known as the blind wager as it is made prior to the cards being dealt. The dealer then deals five face down cards to each player beginning from the player sitting on his left.

After every player has been dealt the cards, the players pick up their hands and decide if they want to call or fold depending on their hand strength. Once all the players have called or folded in the first round of betting, each of them can decide to trade a certain number of cards in their hand from the remaining deck.

Though a player with an Ace or wild card can exchange all the remaining four cards, some casinos allow a maximum of three cards to be swapped.

This act is referred to as drawing in poker terms. Following the draw, the second round of betting commences, which in turn leads to a showdown if all bets are called. The player with the highest ranking hand wins the pot.
