A popular variation of Seven-Card Stud, this classic poker game is a
favorite of many seasoned players who like to try their hands at this
challenging card game. Being a Hi-Lo game it means that the pot is split
between the highest and the lowest hand. Unlike the high-only game of
Seven-Card Stud, the player with the highest hand opens the betting in
Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo.
The format of the betting round is the same as the high only game and
the first six cards are dealt face up while the seventh and the last
card is dealt face down and is followed by the last betting round. In
the showdown, all the players remaining in the hand show their hands and
the pot is split between the player with the best high five-card hand
and the best low five-card hand.
A player has a qualifying low five card hand only if it does not include
a card higher than 8. In addition to that, the hand must not have any
pairs either. However, straights and flushes do not count in a game
hi-lo seven-card stud poker so even if your hand includes A-2-3-4-5, you
have a wheel or the lowest possible hand.
